3 tbsp cornstarch (2+1)
2 tbsp water
½ tsp garlic powder
500g boneless steak cut into thin 7cm strips
2 tbsp vegetable oil (1+1)
4 cups broccoli florets
1 small onion cut into wedges
⅓ cup soy sauce
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp ground ginger
½ cup water
In a bowl, combine 2 tbsp cornstarch, 2 tbsp water and garlic powder until smooth. Add beef and toss to get meat coated on all sides.
Cook broccoli in boiling water for 5 minutes, strain and set aside.
In a non-stick pan over medium heat, stir-fry beef in 1 tbsp oil until it reaches desired doneness; remove and keep warm. To the same pan add onion and remaining oil and stir-fry for 5 minutes. Return beef to pan.
Combine soy sauce, brown sugar, ginger, remaining cornstarch and water until smooth; add to the pan. Cook and stir for 2 minutes. Add broccoli and serve.
