Frankenstein's Feet

elizabethshomemaderecipes.blogspot.com

Para versão Portuguesa clique aqui: “Os Pés de Frankenstein”

These “feet” are simply a meatloaf shaped into feet.

                     elizabethshomemaderecipes.blogspot.com

I used my “Swedish Meatballs” recipe and molded the feet directly on an oven-proof pan that I previously greased with olive oil. For the “ankle bones” I used a slice of onion. The “toe-nails” were also made of pieces of onion. I spread some mayonnaise and wine on the pan and placed in the oven at 170ºC for 1 ¼ hours. I checked it a few times and when it dried out I’d pour a little more wine. I served them with mashed potatoes.

This snake is very easy to make and with the help of your kids it will be a lot more fun! You’ll need:

Ham cut in small cubes
Grated cheese
Oregano
Olive
Pickle
Milk
Green food colouring

Cut puff pastry in half lengthwise. Spread mustard all over and place the ham cubes all along the pastry leaving a margin all around. Sprinkle the grated cheese and oregano.

Roll over the pastry overlapping the ends and giving it a log shape, keeping the ends underneath. Shape the head and tail and bend slightly to form an ‘S’. Cut the olive for the eyes. In a small bowl place 2 tbsp milk and 1 or 2 drops of food colouring. Brush snake completely with milk and place in the oven for 20 minutes until golden. Remove from oven.

Take a slice of pickle and cut out a triangle to make a forked tongue and place it in the snake’s mouth.

Para versão Portuguesa clique aqui: "Sopa de Olhos"

1 can lychees, 567g including liquid
2 packages strawberry jelly, 2 x 85g
Small green grape, preferably with no seeds, about 18 (the same number as lychees)
Black licorice/jelly beans
Red food colouring

elizabethshomemaderecipes.blogspot.com

Strain the lychees and keep the liquid to make the jelly.

elizabethshomemaderecipes.blogspot.com

Cut the jelly beans/black licorice in small pieces and place in the grape where the stem used to be. Place the grape inside the lychee. With a toothpick or small brush wet in food colouring, make small lines along the lychees’ natural creases. Make the jelly according to the instructions on the package and also using the strained liquid from the lychees.

elizabethshomemaderecipes.blogspot.com

Pour a little jelly into a glass bowl and place a few lychees on the bottom. Refrigerate for about an 1 ½ hours. Add most of the jelly leaving just a small quantity. Refrigerate again. When firm place remaining lychees on top and pour remaining jelly. Return to refrigerator for a few more hours to set completely.

To make the fingers you will need:
Slivered almonds

For the cookie dough:
½ cup/100g butter
½ cup/110g sugar
2 cups/300g flour
1 egg
½ tsp vanilla

elizabethshomemaderecipes.blogspot.com

With a small brush paint the almonds with food colouring and set aside.
Pre-heat oven to 180º.
Cream butter with sugar and vanilla. Add egg and mix well. Fold in flour and mix. The dough should be firm and easy to mold. Take pieces of dough and shape into fingers. Place a piece of painted almond on the tip for the nail. With a knife make a few dents to imitate the knuckles. With the help of a toothpick, dot some jam/jelly around the almond to give the fingernail a messy look. Bake for 15 minutes until golden coloured.
